Media Room Transformation

I want to show off this awesome space as well as to give you some inspiration for your own transformations!

This space is a common area for an apartment building in Ottawa. The managers wanted to transform this exercise/sitting/lounging/not-too-sure-what area into a media room. The goal was to provide a space where tenants could have larger gatherings, watch a movie or some YouTube, while enjoying handfuls of popcorn and good company!

The inspiration… old Hollywood. We wanted to use black and white with splashes of bold colour to create a fun and inviting atmosphere! Given the purpose of the room, we were comfortable using a darker colour palette (even on the ceiling)!

The artwork… all for the fame! We chose celebrities from various walks of life- music, film, art, even sports- to include beautiful black and white portraits of.

Our huge area rug was able to pull in the yellow and blue used throughout the room, as well as anchor all of our chairs so the space feels more uniform and comfortable.

For a better use of space (and maximum aesthetic improvement), we extended the kitchen, adding all new cabinets, including uppers, and all new appliances! Notice the custom window frosting done by one of our fabulous Ottawa companies- perfection!

The CEILING has got to be my favourite aspect for a few reasons… one, it is fairly simple to do as we just painted the boring old ceiling tiles; two, because of the surface space it takes up, the before and after is dramatic; and three, it is much less expensive than replacing the ceiling with new tile or a different material!

All in all, we couldn’t be happier with the way this space turned out! A huge thank you to my wonderful clients for giving me the opportunity to work on this exciting project with you!
