Simple, affordable tips for making your bathroom functional AND pretty!

Make your bathroom more attractive, all the while still being functional and organized.

The dirty truth is that this blog post stemed from me asking clients to hide their plungers and toilet brushes. I know we use them all the time but let’s be honest people… they stink! LOL. No guest in your home wants to look at them while they use your washroom and neither should YOU!

The key is to use the closed storage space below your sink for these yucky items. So go ahead… open those doors! No room? No problem!

First, look and make sure there is nothing that can be moved to a new home. Perhaps items that are used less can be kept in a nearby linen closet.

Second, pull out more attractive items, such as perfume bottles or fancy products. You’ll also want to look for smaller items, such as hair products, cottons or makeup. We can find a new home for many of these things up on your counter or an open shelf.

The key to relocating items to make room for the dirty things is to find attractive ways of displaying them OR attractive ways of hiding them!

For your good ol’ towels, I want you to either neatly fold or roll them. Neatly folded towels can be stacked on the edge of a soaker tub or placed on open shelving. Rolled towels can also be used in this way or put into a basket- heck, you can even throw the basket right on the floor if you have the space! The key is to make sure you learn proper folding techniques to keep the towels looking crisp and hiding the edges as much as possible.

For makeup, hair products and other thinga-ma-bobbers, use a sets of bowls, dishes or container. These can be open or have lids, depending what’s inside.

These can be unique to you or the style of your bathroom so go ahead and have fun with it! Get creative and visit some thrift shops- don’t forget to think outside the box!

Rather than having makeup brushes roll around in the bottom of your kit, stand them up in a fun jar! This will also help keep the handles clean and bristles from getting bent by other products. Display bath salts and other products with ugly packaging in glass jars. You could even consider “upcycling” a used liquor bottle with a fancy design!

Also, use a damn tray! Trays help keep things in line, giving them a home and keep them from being haphazardly scattered all over the counter… your perfumes look much more lux there anyway! You could even use some sort of small “lazy-susan” - rotating tray- to keep things super accessible.
